Structural Engineer

Structural engineers provide vital support and information to the other members of the design team working on your project. We recommend that your structural engineer is a member of either The Institute of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or The Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE). They may also be professionally registered with The Engineering Council (CEng) and so be referred to as a ‘Chartered Engineer’. These professional bodies have a code of conduct and regulate the training, standards, and insurance of their members, which will help to protect your project and investment.

Structural engineers provide design information which can form an integral part of Building Regulations submissions, as well as, occasionally, preliminary information for a Planning Application. They design and provide calculations to ensure a building will not fall down or sink into the ground, and will often design the underground foul and surface water drainage including any soakaways, cesspits, or septic tanks.

Not all projects will require the services of a structural engineer, but your architect will advise you as to whether this is the case.
