The Cornish Arms is Rick Stein’s gastro pub located just outside of Padstow in St Merryn, which had obtained planning permission to more than double the size of its restaurant.
Built using traditional materials, the Rick Stein Group commissioned 3HW Architecture & Design with producing, in conjunction with Carpenter Oak, the detailed design drawings for the construction of the new extension and obtaining Building Regulations Approval.
3HW worked collaboratively with Edward Stein and his desire to use traditional materials for the external walls. This created a unique set of criteria, and through innovative use of construction materials, we were able to design a solid external wall which is breathable but still maintains the level of insulation required by the Building Regulations. This was complemented with the modern materials used in the construction of the roof structure and the natural oak frame.
